30-06 brass ??
« on: July 02, 2007, 01:43:59 PM »
I had a 25-06 that I loaded alot for and sold it, so now I have nearly 200 brass laying around.  I have a 30-06 and am curious, can I use this 25-06 brass to reload for 30-06.

You could probably size it up. Think I would do it in steps tho. Take the 30 cal expander out of the 30-06 die and go first with a 27 cal then the 30 cal expander's. They size 30-06 up to 35 Whelan!

The short answer is "yes".  The long answer is 30-06 brass is so cheap, why bother unless you just want to do it to see if you can.

Geeze Beeman, there is one thing cheaper than 30-06 brass, me. I'd probably do that. Instead I neck down 30-06 and 308 cases to make others.

I have got coffee cans upon coffee cans of 1x range pickup brass (rem only) from when I lived in Memphis twenty years ago and I bought some more on Ebay a month ago 'cause I got it at a good price.  ??

I don't see why you couldn't resize .25-06 to .30-06.  I've resized plenty of .30-06 down to .25-06.  I agree with Mr. Fischer that you should do it in steps.  I also shoot .270 Win so I first neck size the .30-06 brass down to .277 and then run it through my .25-06 full length die.  I get fewer "wrinkly" necks that way.  The real question is, why did you sell your .25-06?

You may need to buy a tapered expander , redding sells these for what you want to do. But first check to see if your expander on you 30/06 die is tapered as it may already be.

Of course, one can always load up those .25-06's with some very soft lead .25 shorties, and blow out the cases.   ;D

You could probably swap them to somebody on here.  I've got more of each than I need but someone may have 30s and need 25s.

I would be willing to trade 30-06 for 25-06. I no longer use the 30-06. Let me know what you think
