Uploading Maps to SD cards/gps via 9 pin cable
« on: August 08, 2007, 03:12:55 AM »
I have a Lawrance iFinder H20c and was wondering if I can upload map to my gps with the 9 pin cable that is available.  It says on all of the Map Create CD boxes that a MMCI-USB reader/programmer is necessary.  But I can't figure out why that would be and what the cable would be for if not to upload maps to the SD card. I have contacted Lawrance but they are not real responsive and the manual is not very helpful either.  I don't have a reader/writer and would think the cable should save a step.

thanks for any help.

Lowrance Data Cable Communication Test

Lowrance iFinder Manual on data cable issues

The documentation says the serial connection is for communicating with other devices such as an autopilot.

At the SYSTEM SETUP MENU select COM PORT then configure your baud rate and check NMEA INPUT.  Once you figure out how to start a transfer it should accept NMEA compliant data.  Check the TRANSFER MY DATA section of the SYSTEM SETUP MENU.  Hope this helps.  It is quite a simple affair to upload with a serial connection with my Magellan Meridian Gold, but takes forever.  That is why a $15 card reader is probably worth it.
We learn something new everyday whether we want to or not.

Thanks. That should help a lot.  More info from you in 6 hours than Lowrance in 3 days!
