InsideWaistBand - Grip to Right or Left Side?
« on: August 05, 2007, 01:36:50 PM »
I know this sounds stupid, but for me to carry a pistol Inside-The-Waistband (in the small of my back) should the grip point to the right or left?

I am right handed, carrying a Walther PPK/S in 380 or a Glock 19 in 9mm.

When you buy a right handed IWB holster, the grip points to the left.

Would it be a little more natural to draw a pistol from an IWB holster when the grip points to the right?

Concealment would indicate a right sided placement---try and reach that far too the left and see what I mean.

Just an FYI on SOB carry, an under cover officer fell backwards and landed on his concealed carry... result in back injury to the lumbar area.

I personally carry just past the HIP to the rear with the grip towards the center of my back, like montana stated the spine is a dangerous area to have a weapon and it is for a OLD man a long way to reach if needed.   JIM

SOB is not the best way to carry a gun. it is not very accessible and nearly imposable to draw while sitting in a chair or car. not to mention the reasons stated above.

IWB should be carried just behind the strong side hip.
good luck

Well, tried the right hip placement, but it makes the rig stick out a lot more than the small of back placement. (I'm not real tall or husky)

You are right, it is a reach to get my hand that far to the left when drawing... that's why I was wondering if I was doing it right. (I'm also not real flexible at my age)

Thanks for the replies/advice.
