Why did Beretta drop the Whitetail Hunter?
« on: June 12, 2003, 02:58:52 PM »
I think it was a way to reintroduce Tikka to the USA as something new and improved when the only improvement I see is the trigger pull is now even easier to adjust. the T3 has a one siza fits all action with different bolt stops for shorter calibers, so a WSM is still a long pull if I understand it right.

If it aint broke dont fix it...bring back the whitetail hunter!

They didn't completely drop it----looking in the 2003 Beretta catalog:

Right hand--
Stainless/laminated Whitetail Hunter
Deluxe Whitetail Hunter

Left hand---
Std. Walnut Whitetail Hunter

I've got a feeling that the only reason they changed to the new T3, is because it's cheaper to make than the Whitetail hunter.  I'm pretty sure, that they are switching to a cheaper stock, and are also cutting more cost by switching to a one size action.

And for this, we can pay $50 more??????

I love my Whitetail Stainless Synthetic and am very happy to have found the last one in 25-06 in Beretta's inventory.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think so.

Actually, the new T3s, at least from what I have seen, are actually a bit cheaper than the WHs.

The T3s are lighter, so I think that the stocks and barrels are thinner.  I have never held a T3 in my hand, so I don't really know for certain.

I have 2 WHs - one .25-06 in Stainless Laminated, and a .243 in Stainess Synthetic.  These are awesome guns - I can't imagine trying to "improve" them.

Around here--the T3's and WTH's are about the same price.

The T3's are VERY lightweight---part of the reason I bought mine. The catalog says the magnums are only 3oz. more than the standard models--I would consider the magnums ultra-lights.

A T3 .338 is going to be in my future.

Other than scope rings I've never heard anything bad about the WT Tikka.  I'll stick to it until the T3 wins best rifle of the year like the Tikka did.

They have the same barrels. The stock is lighter (in the plastic/synthetic) and they do use the same action (standard length) but I think they cut cost on the stock and saved money by only having one length in the action/magazine.

Here the WH is only $599 and the T3 is $499 (both in stainless).
