Muzzle Brake from Fox Ridge Outfitters.

Is anybody shooting a barrel that has a brake from Fox Ridge?  How effective is it?  Is it worth the money or do you think an aftermarket brake would be better?  Is it removable or fixed?  Thanks for any information.

I shoot several barrels with the T/C brake, a.k.a. Muzzle Tamer.  It is quite effective.  It's not removable.

I've never shot a barrel with other types of brakes yet though I have one coming.  I'm sure other brakes are effective and some look cooler than the T/C brake but I'm not sure they're any better.

How much would you say it raises the noise level?

The muzzle brake will raise the noise level very high. If you are using a rifle, I would install a Simms pad and also have a Mercury recoil reduce in the stock.  I am not a big muzzle brake fan.

They do make things a little louder, but that's what ear protection is for.  I did put an OPS brake from E. Arthur Brown on one of my rifle barrels and it is awesome.

I have several encore barrels with the custom shop muzzle tamer installed and they all shoot well. The noise level is increased and it will clear off the bench of anything not tied down! I had a situation where I was shooting my 375H&H next to a guy shooting a 308 that was the BOSS system (?)...his noise level was higher than mine! Everyone in the area had their eyes fixed on him.

The custom shop has re-designed their muzzle tamer to have a slight rounded edge to aid in holstering the barrel. Looks better than the one normally installed. I had it installed on a 6mm barrel. They called me and asked if I wanted to try it out. If not happy they would install the typical one at no charge. I have not fired it yet but I do not expect it to be any different.

I originally had a muzzle tamer installed on my 30-06 pistol barrel and it dramatically reduced the recoil and muzzle lift. The magna-port break is also excellent; I have that in my Super Redhawk 44.

Muzzle brakes don't actually increase the noise.  They redirect it more towards the shooter and perhaps change the frequency of the noise.

With or without a muzzle brake, you should wear ear protection.

With many cartridges muzzle brakes aren't really needed but for some, they make shooting MUCH more pleasant.  The in stock recoil reducers for rifles work very well as do cushy recoil pads.
