Thinking of getting a Ruger P series pistol, thoughts?
« on: June 10, 2007, 08:57:26 AM »
Thinking of getting a P series Ruger in 9 MM.  The choice of aluminum versus polymer framed is there, the polymer is listed as cheaper.  I had read years ago that the aluminum framed guns were more accurate.

I used to have a Taurus 92 that had a lousy trigger, sold it, I don't want another pistol with a trigger like that.  Has anyone here been able to compare the two types of P series pistols and which ones did they like the best?

How hard is it to do a trigger job on a Ruger P series pistol?

Thanks.

I have a P95 polymer frame 9mm and a P94 alloy frame in .40 cal. I can't tell much difference in accuracy, but I am not a bullseye shooter and probably not as hard to please as a lot of folks. The polymer frame grip is thick, but the pistol is considerably lighter than the alloy frame. The P94 has one of the best standard grip/size I have ever handled. It is thinner in the center of the grip. Both of my pistols are traditional double action and have long first trigger pulls and then very good, to me, single action pulls. Two pistols I will probably never get rid of. Both have been extremely reliable. I cannot recall a malfunction of any kind with either. My polymer frame is the decocker version and I do like it better than the safety/decock on the alloy frame P94. Neither are pretty, but they are dependable.

I've had an alloy frame p-85 in 9mm for years and have been very happy with it. Never jams and decent accuracy. Not the first choice for a target pistol but good for carry or home defense.

I had a P90 & P95.  I liked everything about them except the trigger.  To me they both had a long creepy trigger.  I sold both due to the trigger.  I would suggest going to the nearest gun shop and dry firing it a couple of times to get the feel of the trigger.  Just my .02

I also have a P90 and P345 as well as my P95. I installed Wolff springs and had the triggers smoothed up, you get use to the trigger pull on the first shot and the triggers are fine after that............

I had a P-94 a few years back.  Dang thing jammed up every few rounds.  Didn't matter how clean it was or what kind of ammunition I bought for it.  Never could figure it out or find anyone else that could so I swapped it for a Glock and never looked back.
