N.J. question
« on: August 05, 2007, 07:25:38 AM »
This one is for Newt or anybody else who lives in Jersey.I know you can't use foothold traps.but I heard it's illegal to own them. I live and trap in Pa. we have a big job starting in AC in November. From mid october on I have traps and trapping gear in my truck in tubs.My question is will I be breaking the law just by transporting my gear across the state?I doubt if a cop who stops me for speeding or something would even care, but I'm curious.I'm not planning on getting stopped. It hasn't happened in over 20 years now.But if I'm in the gray area I'll get snagged everytime. Thanks Bill

They probity wont bother you. But it is illegal to OWN or transport traps in NJ. The "own" part I am sure about .The transport I am not 100% sure. But probity so.

I said years ago that they wouldn't,enforce that OWNING thing. I was wrong to the tune of $42,600.00. To me as RAMBO said "They drew first blood" .I NO longer have ANY respect for GAME WARDENS. At court the DA didn't want anything to do with the case. He offered me a week or so to get the traps out of state. I said OK. The ---- Game Warden said "NO" He wanted to (his words) "Prosecute me to the fullest extent of the law" . Now  I is say --------They are all a bunch of Egotistical A -holes

Hey Newt, i know what you mean, there are those type of people in all law enforcement fields.   We had a warden kicked off  force here in Wisconsin last year.

The -NEXT time- time I get arrested for owning traps in New Jersey. Yes I did say "the NEXT time".I'm a trapper and a Supply Dealer. I am gonna get a Public Defender.I'll fight them with the states money. Not mine.
A law like that HAS to be un-constuntial. Heck we cant hunt with a rifle for deer in NJ .But we can own them to hunt out of state.
