I have a Colt New Service in 45, that has seen BETTER days and Id like to try to return it to something close to the original form. Currently the barrel was shortened to about 2 inches and the top was cut for S&W sights. I like to think this was done to make a "pocket gun" for a cop in the 30's, but the S&W sight make me think it was done later , especially since the front sight is ramped.
Ideally Id like to replace the barrel with a longer, (say 5 or 6 inch) version and with a period sight. I havent searched yet but Im wondering about the availability of a new or "newer" full length barrel. I realise anything I do will cost more than its likely going to be worth, but I prefer the older style. Ive seen PPC"race" guns with Colt barrels on Rugers and similar, is it possible to fit a modern barrel to my frame? Are there any alternatives to an Original Colt barrel? Will something else work?
Any suggestions?
