Mail a Colt Anaconda to custom grip shop problems

I tried USPS they said no mailing hand guns period. Then tried USP they said they send them to a FFL only. I'm trying to send my Anaconda to Herrett stocks of ID. They say for a Colt Anaconda they need the gun to fit it properly because of variations during production. I have an 8" Colt Anaconda and the grips feel so small in my hand. I've used Pacmyer,Hough wood and Rubber. Does any one have and suggestions?

I used Fed Ex to ship a 629 to Maganaport.  They said to remove the cylinder and I shipped to them and they shipped back directly to me.

I suggest you contact Herrett and ask them.

The laws and shippers policies are very specific on this matter.  I request we stay away from interpreting the law or making suggestion on shipping handguns.

UPS is too difficult to deal with, call FedX and tell them you need a pick up and they'll be there the next day.
Robin & Dee are correct about needing your gun. Sometimes there's enough variation in frames that it's best for them to have your gun.

Well I found out that shipping it by AIR ( Mandated by Law) would cost me $60 bucks 1 way so a $100 bucks for the grips and $120 bucks for shipping. I can't afford that so I ordered some over sized grips from Eagal grips designed for the Colt Anaconda. Oh well I'll hope for the best.

That is the way that I interpreted it also but every time I buy a gun off of Gunbroker they ship the gun to my ffl using USPS priority.

Law DOES NOT mandate shipment by air. That's the carrier's rules ONLY. It began with UPS when they had so much troulbe with their employees stealing guns so they elected to force you to use over night air to ship them so their employees would have less time to steal our guns. What a way to solve a problem eh? Then FED-EX followed suit fairly quickly after all they make a lot more profit that way.

Dealers ONLY can ship via USPS, individuals must use someone like UPS or FEDEX althou there are others besides those two who can and will deliver them but I'm not aware of anyone other than USPS who ships other than over night air.

And then there's the box marked "Farm Tools." (Just kidding!)    So far, I've never had any trouble shipping my to gunsmiths via UPS.

I wanted a set of Herrett Roper grips for my Anaconda and they told me the same thing.
I'd love to get a set, but I'm not going to put that kinda money into shipping.  Guess I'll stick to the crappy rubber grips.

Hey Anaconda from "Eagle Grips" I think their called Roper grips are something like that. They're perfect. I can't recommend them strong enough

I'm sending a S&W off this week for a new set of grips. The grip maker told me to remove the cylinder and it can be shipped as a "machined metal part." It doesn't have to be shipped over night as such.

Your FFL should charge you no more that $20 to ship it via USPS which is legal. Since it's technically being shipped for repairs, it shouldn't have to go in his books and be an additional cost to you. I ship USPS all the time but through my dealer. Twenty dollars for handguns and thirty for long guns and he supplies the boxes.

Both of my dealers here each wanted $50 to ship it. My removing the cylinder and shipping it as a machined metal part, and insuring it, the cost was $25.
