Found 30/06
« on: August 01, 2007, 07:50:12 AM »
Found a nice 3006 with a scope at a pawn shop. Couldn't resist for $150.  Actually I bought it for a friend who's helping me remodel my house, so he can put a muzzleloader barrel on it.  It's a 2001 model, but the scope rail seems to be a little of center(drilled wrong).  Has anyone had this happen from the factory?  Would they correct it if it results in a problem?  (Have not shot it yet).

Anyhow, the receiver will do good with the new barrel and many others.  My friend will probably become one of us!!!!!!!! Handiholics

I've not read of a misaligned scope rail on a Handi, but I'm sure it happens, I have read of the Marlin rimfire bolt guns having poorly aligned mount holes. I would contact H&R and have them fix it, or have a local gunsmith either remount it sligtly forward or just drill a couple new holes in the rail and barrel to get it mounted straight. But I'm sure H&R will repair it for ya, give em a call toll free, (866)776-9292. ;) They might even just replace the barrel, but it will be an extractor if they do.

Happens to most all brands from time to time. I bought a new TC Semiauto .22LR and while it was accurate enough I had to use the Burris Signature rings and a 20 insert in BOTH rings pointed in opposite directions to just barely using ALL the scope adjustment get it to sight in. That's about as bad as it gets but was topped by a Marlin I bought in .17HMR which even done that way still would not sight in at 25 yards. Using all scope adjustment and the 20s in both rings it still needed several more inches at 25 yards. That was the worst POS I've ever had the misfortune to own. Needless to say the dealer it came from got that one back.

Modern maching is quite wonderous in repeatability but from time to time things just ain't right.
