I bought 3 boxes of different USSR .22 rf ammo at a local gunshow and am wondering if it is corrosive? The .22 Shorts say "non-corrosive" and the steel cased ammo is dated 11-13-1988, or at least that what is seems to say.
I remember a situation in the early 1990's when there were Russian made 9 X 18 Makarov ammo that came into the country that stated it was "non-corrosive" and turned out it was corrosive. The poor ammo sellers had to take a magic marker and blot out the "Non" on the box. I was lucky as I had religiously cleaned my Makarov with Hoppes #9 after shooting it and did not have a damaged barrel as I had used several boxes of the Russian stuff myself.
This recently purchased ammo is not the Wolf brand, or the same packaged steel cased stuff that was available in the mid-1990s.
I usually don't clean my .22 rf gun's barrel on a regular basis, but if this stuff is corrosive, my guns will have to get the bore scrubbed after each session. Has anyone used this stuff from Russia?
Thanks.
