Encore Slug Barrels
« on: August 02, 2007, 03:28:10 AM »
Does anyone have any experience with the Encore rifled slug barrels, either 12 or 20ga?  I like the new stainless Pro-Hunter barrels.

With the new 20ga saboted slugs, would there be any advantage to going with the 12ga for whitetails?

Thank you!

Mark

No experience with the 12Ga Rifled Slug Barrel but my 20 Ga shot under 2.5 inches all day long at 100 yds. most of the time it shot smaller groups than that,  never shot it any farther than 100yds. Recoil with the 3 inch 20 Sabot slugs were not bad at all but the same brand was more accurate in the  2  3/4 inch version. I think the 20 Ga may shoot flatter than the 12 Ga. Mine shot the sabot rounds with the Barnes copper bullets in it the best, sorry can't remember the brand.

Do not go with the 12ga. Unless you Like Heavy recoil !  I have a 24" 12ga on a pro hunter frame, with the flextec thumb hole stock and Love it..   The recoil is very stiff But manageable.   Best group I've ever shot  was 1 " @ 100 yards   Average Group is about 2" @ 100 Yards.   I shoot the Hornady SST's and Federal Barnes  Both are 2 3/4 slugs.   I see no real advantage over the 20ga Other than slugs are easier to find for the 12ga around here.      Hope this helps!

Why punish yourself?.A 20 Gage is plenty. Most,if not all your shots will be under 100yds,well within the range of the 20.pan.
