Almost Here ! On The Way!
« on: August 02, 2007, 03:55:53 PM »
Back on 6/14 I placed a special order with my local Gun Shop and paid 50% deposit up front. Freedom Arms had told me 8-10 weeks to build and ship. I was really surprised when the shop called me and told me the gun was shipped by Freedom on 08/01 and should arrive on 08/03. I today fillled out the paperwork for the ten day waiting period in CA. Can't wait to see and handle it.
- Model 97 Premier Grade - 45 Colt - 7 1/2" Brl.
- Octagon Barrel with recessed crown
- Extra fitted cylinder in 45ACP
- 3 lb. fitted trigger with stop
- Polished & Jeweled hammer and trigger
- Black micarda grips
- Snap caps in both calibers
-Extra front sights in Gold Bead and Fiber Optic
Damn thing cost a bundle. Hope that it is all worth it?

WORTH IT.. every doggone nickel... that is the answer..
I feel honestly that you will not regret one single penny and have made a really fine choice of weapons and calibers and the way you put it together is a really nice package..
this is a lasting investment and will never wear out or let you down...
be proud my brother ..
You done Good... real Good..
I wish I had a couple of features you have... a lot of people would like to have that rig... use it and use it wisely it will not ever be less than you want or need...
as much as anything it is your gun, your choices, the coolest thing is choosing and getting it just like you want.. it does not get better than that....
keep the shooters here informed ... they all will help and support you... and be happy for you.. spread it around.
How about a picture and a range report.. or heck let me shoot or something.. you in Louisiana by any chance. LOL

Congrats on what I'm sure will be a super fine gun. You really didn't miss a thing on the options! I currently own a grand total of one FA and was undecided (ya just know there's gonna be another one) about bidding on one that's almost what I want or ordering a new one that's exactly right.  Your way makes the most sense.

I appreciate the positive comments. I probably would have ordered it in 45ACP if available but they would only build in 45 LC and I had to order the ACP cylinder extra. I debated on the Octagon brl. option. It looks great but is so expensive. I finally said "What the Hell" just Do It. I liked the 7 1/2" brl. length for gun balance and sight radius.  I already have a Ken O'Neill Partridge front sight as it won't be a holster gun and I light the sight picture better than the std. ramp. I requested a test target in both calibers. I may, or not, get the second one as they usualy don't test shoot the extra cylinders. I will mainly use at the target range to blow away the S&W - Colt - Ruger - Guys in the accuracy department. I got the lightest trigger that Freedom would fit at 3lbs. I will probably mainly use 185gr. and 200gr. SWC loads in the 45 ACP cylinder for target use. Might be fine to take on a Wilson Combat or Ed Brown 1911 in a target shoot out? I think the Freedom 97 would hold its own against these?  Nice to be able to shoot light target loads as well as 45 Super or 45LC Heavy Loads in the same gun.

I would bet it shoots as tight as any auto at any price by any maker, I do not know, but I would take that bet... gun to gun..
I would like to know what the test target looks like as well..
you mentioned Ken O'Neill's partridge front sight.. I am interested in that, too.. but I will be holstering my rig when I get it in monday... it is at the FFL dealers and all alone and needs me... I like the octogan barrel too and just saw one on an old western movie : Lee van  Cleef had one while Clint had a more normal looking 45 colt... I liked it then too.
take care and show up those other guys once you practice with it a bit... but watch the man with one gun as he likely knows how to use it.. LOL
it is great to be alive and be a handgun shooter....

Well I got detained and did not get my F.A. DROS'd until today. Now must wait until any time on 8/20 to pick up the thing. After two months of waiting I guess one more week will not kill me!
