Matte vs. Glossy receiver
« on: August 12, 2007, 04:06:45 AM »
Can someone tell me why most of my recievers are the glossy finish, but I have one that is a matte.  I have switched things around so many times, I have no idea what really came on it.  I know the rimfires that I have are matte, but this one is a centerfire.

Thanks guys

are you sure it's not a sb1 reciever? all my sb1's have a duller finish than my sb2's.

I'm thinking synthetic stock = matte receiver.  Wood = gloss.   :-\

As Airsporter mentioned, some of the synthetic stocked rifles may have matte finishes, looking at those in their 2007 catalog, some look matte and some look shiny. I've only bought new rimfire rifles with syn stocks, so I dunno if that holds true for centerfire rifles too. :-\

All the ones I've bought as synthetics came with the matte finish and all of the wood stocked ones were glossy.

Just call NEF/H&R with the serial number to be sure. They will tell you what barrel came with it....<><....:)

After reading Tim's thought, went and looked at the firing pin.  It is an SB1.  Good thing it was an extra sitting under the bed. That could have been ugly with the wrong barrel on it!!!

Thanks guys

An extra receiver under the bed.
OK, the first step is admitting you have a problem.

Yes, I have a problem.  I have got to sell several items here soon.  That is only one of 5 receivers under the bed.  I have made myself pick 5 barrels and stock sets and will parting with everything else.  I just don't have the time to use everything I have.  My 2 year old is just too much fun!
