Question on ability to change barrels between models

I should know this, but I don't.   

Within the TC line of single shot pistols and rifles and barrels....which ones are interchangeable???

Can a Contender use bbl's for a G2 Model?  How about barrels made for the encore line?

Can a G2 use contender bbl's?  Encore bbls?....

Can an Encore frame use contender and G2 bbls?

Are Contender pistols able to mount up with "carbine" barrels?  How about encore bbl's?

Can a "encore" and "pro hunter" use the same rifle  bbls? 

Can a single "pro hunter" receiver be used to configure a rifle and a pistol.

Whew!  I know this is long-winded but Im really clueless on how much interchange exists between the various, frames, models and bbl's.

All the Contender and G2 frames and barrels are interchangeable with the exception of the G2 black powder barrels don't readily fit the Contender frames.  The Encore barrels and frames are all interchangeable.  Encore barrels won't fit Contender and G2 frames and Contender barrels won't fit Encore frames.

The Pro Hunter is an Encore and will fit all standard Encore bits and pieces.

Rifle/pistol interchangeability are the subject of many posts here and always starts a disagreement.  Thompson Center won a court case a few years ago that sets case law allowing pistol frames to be used with rifle barrels and stocks.  Some use that settlement to indicate that the reverse is also true.  I prefer to not take the chance and buy my frames as pistols, then use rifle parts if I choose.  The same logic applies to Encores, but that weapon has not been tested in court at all, to my knowledge.  If you search this forum you will find all the discussion on this topic that you wish.

The one thing that most agree on is that it is a violation of Federal law to put a barrel shorter than 16 inches on a rifle stock equipped frame.  That makes a "short barreled rifle" and is against the law.

Thanks Keith.  Not all that complicated once I hear the answer.

I'll do some scooting around at the various threads to learn more about the pistol / rifle interchangeability. 

Ive owned a contender pistol for years, but have been oblivious to the additional TC models.  Guess I have to admit that when I picked up a Encore rifle the other day it felt like it was made for me.  I think the TC bug has his teeth into me and Im afraid that I might become one of those "exchange barrel" gun nuts.  Time will tell.

There is an exception with Contender barrels.  Unless they've had a factory modification, Contender Armor Alloy barrels (made a long time ago) probably won't fit a blue or stainless steel frame.  You probably won't run into these barrels often.

What is legal to do with rifle/pistol barrels and rifle/pistol frames is governed by both State & Federal law.  In PA, for instance, handguns must be registered.  Therefore I would conclude that in PA, it would be illegal to put a pistol barrel on a rifle frame irrespective of what federal law said.

Headspace will vary slightly when mixing and matching frames. Usually not a problem but it can bite once in a while when mating two worst-case components.

Grumlkin...thats for the additional information.  I have heard about the Armor Alloy barrels, but I didn't know about the potential fitment issue. Also, never even thunk about the possibility of a State Law relative to matchingt up TC parts.  Appreciate your heads-up.


Edk...good point on the headspace issue.  I did have a headspace issue with a .223 contender barrel and TC sent me a brand new barrel.  In fact it is the new one I have for sale in the Classified's.
