280 handi prefers what?
« on: August 15, 2007, 12:12:42 PM »
I was wondering what the 280 nef handi rifle seems to prefer 140 or 150 grain bullets?

I am just starting to get ready to load up some homebrew for it

Have 175 grand slams i picked up for 8 bucks a box on a discout bin at a pawn shop

other than that no other projectiles yet but see that all factory ammo is 140 or 150 grain leads

what does yours prefer?

I don't know if this will be of much help because I've not shot any 150's out of my 280 but I've had good luck with 140's (Rem PSP corelokt) in factory loads (rem and Wisconsin Cartridge) average 1-1.25" at 100 yds.  The most accurate bullets I've found so far have been 139 SST's and 139 interbonds the SST's will shoot into a half inch at 100 loaded over H4831sc or AA3100.  The interbonds didn't do as well as the SST's but they stayed sub-MOA.  I also had good luck with 160 failsafes.

hey guys, thanks for the replies and pics

it seems that the handi rifles in 270 and 280 really seem to shoot well with good old remington green box interlock psp ammo

i have new scopes on my .270 ultra and .280 standard handi and need to sight them both in this weekend

have been lazy and only shot factory ammo in them both up until this point but it is time to pump the old single stage press again

thanks again for the info, will probably order some core lock bullets from midwy or grafs or midsouth and get the ball rolling in the cellar again
