NEF BC ramblings
« on: August 14, 2007, 03:18:45 AM »
Someone want to 'splain to me why I've had this compulsion to buy a buffalo classic and put a tang site on it ....when I have absolutely NO, none, zip, nada use for a 45-70 much less a long barrel when most of my hunting is in the woods. Then i think wouldn't it be fun for the range to hurl Buicks 100 yds ;D or for hunting because I mostly sit, then I think, no, I should be practical and get the 20 ga Ultra.  :-\

I am afraid you have it bad. ;)
You can buy all the guns or other toys you can think of,
but until you buy that rifle (BC) It will haunt your thoughts.
I had to buy a 223 for the same reason.

DOWN UNDER!!!!!!! ;D ;D
The quality of a mans life is in direct proportion to his commitment to excellence.

I'm not a doctor, but I have spent a night in a holiday in express.... ::) Just like, Mac11700 & DALESCARPENTRY,  I prescribe a couple hours on the couch relaxing with this...

Now, it ain't a Handi and it ain't even a 45-70...but It will cure what ails ya!! ;D ;D ;D

I have long been on the fence with the 38-55 Handi as well!! I have a Marlin Cowboy in 38-55 that I don't shoot now.... I threw a marbels tang stie on it and got it to shoot VERY well, once I got the right dia bullet.  But haven't had it out in a couple years. Though hard about selling a couple times and buying the handi... Maybe one day I will or even work a deal out in a trade or something......

Dan'l Boone's rifle had a long barrel and he hunted in the woods, why not you?

Instead of the tang sight which is tricky to install into wood, is separated from the barrel, and forever alters the rifle affecting resale, I would suggest the Smith Enterprises Wesson and Harrington Buffalo Classic Long Range sight which mounts in the existing screw holes.

Great. Thanks. Now I can add $150 for the cool site, screws from Brownells, cool cartridge sock. You're all a big help.

Yeah, but when you smack iron at 600+ yards for the first time it will all be worth it.  :D

And you will buy more of them.A man just cannot have too many 45/70's.A basic complete 45/70 "stable" is at least one Handi,a Buffalo Classic and a Marlin lever gun. From there you can expand.
I can close my eyes right now and still hear the ringing "THWACK" of the steel ram at 400 yards. You always remember your first time.

Stan

The more I listen,the more I hear....and vice versa.

45/70..it's almost a religion.
