Polaris 4-wheel drive problem. Speedometer?
« on: August 23, 2007, 05:28:06 AM »
2000 Xplorer 400 4x4.  My speedometer is crunched and I'm reading that the 4-wheel drive power routes thru it and thats why my front hubs aren't locking in.  The new speedo is ~$300 and I just want to make sure this is the problem before I spend the money.  Does anyone know how to by-pass the speedometer (I don't really need one),  or where to order one cheaper?  It has 2 plugs that go into the back, 1 is a 6-pin, the other is a 3 pin.  6-pin does most of the speedo work and "AWD" light I believe, the 3-pin (red-white-blk) goes to the speed sensor.  Any help is Greatly appreciated.  Thanks. Bill

When my 2000 Polaris 500 went down, I had several problems.   The Shop did a research and found some new parts from other shops that they didn't use, and I got them at a discount.   Don't know if all the shops will do that.

Brn/W wire going into the speedo is the ground for the hub coils. Good Luck!!
