Info on M92
« on: February 21, 2009, 02:03:08 AM »
I just bought a .38/.357 SS M92.  It appears to be in excellent condition and probably spent most of its time on a gun rack.  I'm curious about what appears to be the serial #.  In 2 places it has 18XX  NO  2000.  I take that to mean it was built in 2000.  Further it has no distributor ID only A. Rossi.
Anyone have an idea of value and if my guess is correct?  Plan to take a shot or 2 (lol) this afternoon.

I do not have the answer for you .

I bought a blued Rossi in 38 special 357 magnum about 3 weeks ago and although I don't know for sure I think it's made in 2008 , mine has the serial number engraved on the bottom of the receiver in front of the lever , the calibre engraved on the octagonal barrel on the left hand side near the receiver and AMADEO ROSSI SA . MADE IN BRAZIL engraved on the tang behind the hammer .

Probably means mine was made in a different factory

Jacko   Were the last four numbers 2008?  If they are on yours, I think it would indicate they did something logical and made the serial number the number in the production run and the year made.

They did not do something logical  ::) . I have the letter K at the start of my serial number followed by 6 digit's which give no clue to the date of manufacture . I guess Rossi could shed some light for you Ismith

Before I bought this rifle I read a lot about Rossi's in the US being fitted with safety's , mine thankfully does not , just the half cock feature . I am wondering if Rossi supplies slightly differant spec rifles for the Australian market ie differant serial number placement , lack of a safety or whether the differance may be due to when our rifles where manufactured .

Mine doesn't have the safety either thank goodness.  Further there's no distributor name anywhere.  I believe that somewhere I read that depending on who was distributing at the time the serial #'s changed.
