Purchased a Ruger KMini-14/5P (stainless synthetic Ranch Rifle) about a month ago. The new Ruger peep with blade protected front sights have worked very well, presenting a sight picture reminiscent of that I got used to with the M-1 Carbine. I have put about 400 rounds through the firearm, most at 200 yards offhand. I have used Wolf 55 grain FMJ ammunition. For those interested, I offer up some comments on the rifle.
Quality:
Flawless from the box.
No surprises upon firing; no cracking, bending or breaking.
The handling qualities of the rifle:
The stock fits me very well, being of proper dimensions in the fore stock and in length of pull. The sights come up quickly, and the rifle seems to want to point where I aim it. Not quite as good as the little 77RSI I bought last year, but better than the M-1 Carbine or an AR-15 for me.
Accuracy:
The rifle has surprised me. It was easy to sight in and adjust the new sights for the 200 yards at which I use it. Today I tried a 100 yards 5 shot group off the bench and got just under 2 MOA, with this being due to a flyer which moved away from the other 4 inside 1 1/4 inch, with three almost touching. I did allow about 1 minute between shots. I also do not shoot groups of more than 5 before allowing a 2-3 minute cooling period, as in my experience .223 barrels heat up fast and then tend to stay hot.
Summary:
I will use this rifle for some rabbit and coyote hunting, perhaps a woodchuck or gopher too. Makes a nice field companion rifle in my estimation.
