Marlin Quality

I had a problem with one of my marlins a while back they wouldn't fix it and they told me to take it to my smith. he said he couldn't fix it and to call marlin back. they said they had nothing to do with it and then i got mad at cs and demanded to speak to someone who knew what they was talking about so then i talked crap to them untill they replaced it. i have never had a problem since

I have seen some quality issues myself with Marlin. I have more than just a few Marlins and I can say without a doubt that every single one is accurate and functions flawless.

My 32 mag is a real tack driver and has a nice tiger stripe stock. It prints groups like this 5 shot group for the Ranch Dog postal match, at 50 yards with open sights.



My 308MX is a work of art onto it's self. It has a beautiful stock and shoots like a dream. This 5 shot group was shot at 100 yards with a 3.5-10 Leupold scope.



My old 44 mag has a pretty plain stock but has an action that is smooth as butter and shoots groups like this at 50 yards with open sights.



The 1895G 45-70 is another work of art, with beautiful wood and the accuracy isn't bad to boot with 100 yard groups like this.



My Dad's old 336 30-30 from 1977 will hang in there with the best of them. It has pretty plain wood but lacks not for accuracy. With Hornady Leverevolution ammo it shoots at least this good at 100 yards with a 3-9 scope.



Here is another group with the 1895G 45-70 It is capable of groups better than this, but this one was shot at 100 yards with Hornady Leverevolution ammo.



I have a few more Marlins and they all seem to shoot as good as these. I have seem some quality issues with Marlin, wish I had the money to buy more
 

I think I would give Marlin a chance, they will do you right. Hands down it is my go to gun!!

I hope we get to see some pics with a nice bear. The last bear I shot was in 1987. It was nice black bear that I shot near Sanora Pass in the Sierra Nevadas just west of the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training center. One shot with the 444 Marlin and it was lights out. I really liked the bear meat, might have to see about going out again someday.

Sorry about your luck, I have an excellent 336 with very good wood and fit- finish, no feeding problems or the other.

You should have sent them right off to Marlin, instead of trying to have someone else fix the problem, there CS is excellent and they are very reasonable.

You don't have to sell me on Marlins, just new Marlin quality. I have several, the oldest a 1968 is awesome. My 336 was fixed by a local gunsmith for $25, the price of shipping. He gave up on the 32 mag CB and sent it back for me. They replaced the barrel and action. I'll test over labor day weekend. Interesting my first barrel slugged @.3145 and the rebarel slugs @.310, much better.

I do think I ticked them off. Took them a month and the rifle came back with the tube mag loose from the barrel and the rifle was obviously never wiped off. The first time it went back, it came back pristine.

I recently picked up a pristine 25-20. It functions very nice and will be tested Labor day weekend also. Come to think of it now that a gunsmith fixed the trigger sear engagement for $25, no further problems there either.  I am much happier now; it's unfortunate that I wasted a better part of a year trying loads that would never work in a ridiculously oversized barrel.  Life goes on.

It is not uncommon for manufacturers to have different "specifications" for different customers.  I don't know if Marlin does or not.  The idea is to keep top specs for their own brand, and good specs for important things that may affect function on all brands, but use lesser materials or tolerances in areas that don't make the difference.  In my experience the product is run down the same lines, but is batched so product is not mixed up.

Just the same, a good reason to buy from a gun shop or dealer and not Wal-Mart!

WalMart gets it guns from the dist as many of the small dealers. If you order a Marlin from Walmart or from mom and pop down the road, they all come from the same bin. A Marlin 336A or 336W is what you get, doesn't matter who orders it for you.

if it is a special run gun it does. i know they had got a order of nef handi rifles in. they were the same gun you got at your gun shop but they ordered so many they got it cheaper. they did take away slings from the packages though

I used to be a supplier to Wal Mart, and nothing they got was standard.  We had to jump through all kinds of hoops for them.  It would really surprise me if they went through any distributers, with the logistics/distribution network they have.

Sport South is one of the dist where Walmart gets there firearms, there are others but the Marlins come from Sport South.
