Things I learned this year about Vegetable Gardening
« on: August 26, 2007, 08:02:52 AM »
1.  4 - 10 feet tall Grape Tomato Plants is too many for two people. (Even if one dies and only 3 produce tomato's)

2.  4 - 12 feet tall Big Boy Tomato plants is too many for two people.  (Especially if they all survive)

3.  Never Rototill Horseradish under.  (Instead of 6 horseradish plants, I now have over 100)

4.  Don't let Okra Pods get more than 4" long.  (You can use the Pods for Toothpicks if you do)

5.  I don't like String Beans enough to plant 2 packets of seeds.  (They also grew up my Shovel & Hoe Handle)

6.  New Grape Vines can grow more than 10 feet in their first year.  (And run out of space)

7.  Ribbon Snakes and Garden Spiders like my Vegetable Garden as much as I do.  (So do Mosquito's)

8.  Deer like to watch me from a short distance and snort when I go to pick fresh veggies.  (Who says you can't grow Meat in a Garden?)

9.  Robins, that like to crap on me while I am in my Garden, get to meet Mr. PelletGun.

10.  I don't have enough Canning Jars.

You forgot: 50 tomato plants aren't enough if a late freeze wipes out most of the wild food and the squirrels are starving in your area and that raccoons can tell one day sooner than you can when your cantaloupes are ripe.

Between last year and this year, 4 Zucchini that die, doesn't give you enough and 6 plants that do survive, gives you enough to feed the 4th infantry. Next year I'll plant 5  gypsyman
