Buckeye,
I am assuming you are interested in collecting the rifle, not hunting with it. Question, if unfired, why not Excellent? Was it improperly stored or shot very little but used roughly? These are questions I ask myself when looking at such rifles. Many years ago I hunted with an old timer in Maine who had a Model 8 with no scope. He scrimped and saved to upgrade to a scoped Model 81! I do not believe they were drilled and tapped for a scope, as it had to be side mounted, so you may want to look for this type of thing on the rifle as it detracts from collector value. Also, there was a peep sight available from the factory (perhaps special order), as he had it on the Model 8 and told me he ordered it and received the rifle that way new from Remington. He liked the .35 Remington and both were in this caliber. I fired the rifles a few times and liked them. They operate via a long recoil mechanism and are quite robust. The machining is amazing. I would suppose the only parts source would be Numrich Arms or such if you needed to replace a component.
If it is NRA Very Good condition, that may be a little high.

If it is NRA Excellent, go for it if you want a very interesting piece of firearms technology. I would recommend that you have an expert gunsmith look at it, as there are parts that wear or break which if not properly replaced or repaired can affect the rifle's ability to function.

The price sounds OK, if in that good of condition. The 300 Savage was probably the best caliber, besides the 35 Remington, in these guns.

Check out the site in my signature, dedicated to these guns.  There's a lot of info there, too.
