What Barrel ?
« on: August 28, 2007, 05:44:50 PM »
I am wanting to get a barrel for my PH 308,30/06 or a 300WM will be using it for deer and a Elk when and if  I ever get a tag. I have 3 Garands 1 in 308 so I have tons of brass.

TIA Nim

Since you're not getting the "short action" advantages of a 308 with your single shot and Elk is on the table I'm gonna strongly recommended the 30-06, you could go with the 300WM but be aware that belted magnums and encores really don't make very good friends with your shoulder

i've been eyeballing the .338 federal. It's based on the .308 but i don't know if you could use your brass or not? I have a .280 that i love but the 30-06 would be great as well.

Just take some Pamprin & you'll be fine.

yup that or since hes got a pro hunter then hes got a flex tech, time to put it to the test i would say the 300win mag. plenty of gun and power and you can have long range shots so that seems like the right round

I also have the flextech stock, and while it helps it isn't magic ;) Those 300grn xtp's are rough with my 460magnum.  I think the main benefit to the flextech lies in the limbsaver recoil pad, which you can buy for a normal stock.

yeah true. i used one and i liked it a lot. i just went and bought a limbsaver because i didn't have the cash to buy the stock at the time it still helps though and i really don't think it would kick that hard with it thats just what i think though

I would suggest some thing different but I can no longer say "brass is cheap." You will be fine with any one of your listed cartridges.
30-'06, hands down out of that list.

yeah you will need a rifle for arm if you want accuracy.
