New pistol's first squirrel
« on: December 05, 2006, 10:03:52 AM »
I got my new revovler the other day as an early CHRISTmas gift. Its  Ruger Single Six 6.5". Took it out on its first hunt and bagged the only squirrel I saw. I zeroed it with Federal bulk ammo and got okay groups at 25 yards. I then used my 22 AccuRizer tool from Pako Kelly and it made the groups shrink enough to make me pretty confident with headshots. Im gonna try it with some CCI minimags to see how accurate theyll be. Ill be taking this pistol groundhog and jackrabbit hunting when I go to Western KS. Ill keep my shots to under 50 yards and use the 22 mag cylinder. I love this gun and it makes squirrel hunting so much more fun.

Congratulations on your new Single-Six!

I like to hunt small game with mine(5.5" stainless) too. I've busted tons of squirrels, rabbits, coons, possums, and such with a revolver. Personally, I don't think you can get more fun out of hunting than using a nice single action on small game.

My Colt Frontier Scout has a Bushnell Phantom 1.5x scope. I've shot lots of squirrels, coons, ground squirrels and such with it. I went to a CZ 452 American rifle for most everything now. That 1.5x just isn't enough power.
