New toys a coming
« on: August 30, 2007, 11:35:21 AM »
I think I got a mail from a shipping company to say my next cannon is finally on it's way. I've waited a long time for this, anyone sprekken zie?

Sehr geehrter Herr Robin G. Hewitt,

wir haben den Auftrag erhalten, eine Sendung an Sie zu liefern.

The law is a bit tight over here on cannons made after 1939, had to go to Germany for this one. Made in the 19th for the ramparts of a schloss, listed as fireable but I think a considerable proofing load and a long fuse still sounds like a good idea ;D

Robin -

Bablefish comes up with this:

Dear Mr. Robin G. Hewitt, we received the order to supply a transmission to you.

Lost a little in the translation I think.

By the bye, have you posted any pix for the calendar?

Calendar pics posted, same old stuff I'm afraid, been a bit busy.

I'd almost forgotten about buying this cannon. Told him to debit my plastic twice ten days apart so it would show on two statements and not alert the wife to my shenanigans ;D

hmmm... another "technique"  ;)

I always try to plan deliveries around the two nights that my wife takes my 5 year old to karate class. The UPS guy always shows up while she is gone those two nights.

Timing is everything  ::)

The deceptive methods you guys use to fool your wives about your hobby are simply awful.

I send the stuff to my Mom's house and have her call me on my work phone when it's delivered...

Have everything shipped hold for pick up and blame my tardiness getting home from work on the traffic.

Congrats on the cannon. If you have questions in German try here.  My German is very rusty, only had it in high school. A lot of the guys speak English and will help you with language, especially if you post a pic.  I started reading it just to see what they had.  I had to study for a board test and reading and writing in German was labor intensive so I gave it up for a while.  As for the wife I just don't tell her how much it cost because I love her and it would make her feel bad.  She did go to the last show and hold one rifle so I could go get the other. I was going to shows with one friend who always asked if he could pay half in cash and charge the other half ????? I finally caught on.  ;D

That's what is nice about this board, we are like a band of brothers, cannon brothers.  We are all ways try to help each other out...the first step in cannoneering is getting one. And now every ne has an idea how to do the first step.

Arrived today, delivery man thought it was probably a lawn mower. Close enough  ::)

1.35" bore, just how big is a golf ball?  ;D

Cool barrel!

I usually cut a golf-ball bore from 1.70 to 1.75 depending on how it's to be used.

1.70 is tight and gives max range for a given charge.

Unless I am deliberately trying to restrict a tube to golf balls only (1.700" in that case), I drill bores of that nominal size to 1 23/32" (1.719", a standard inch drill size) so I can shoot one pound spherical lead sinkers when the urge strikes me.
