There's a better, easier, cheaper way to fix that cross bolt safety and if it ever needs it, can be reversed back to the original confirguration. I did my 1895SS this way and like it better and it only cost me less than .50 cents. I went to the hardware store and purchased a very small rubber "O-ring" which tightly slipped over the crossbolt button and into the ring that the red is painted to show that the safety is in the off position. The use of this 29 cent (for two) item totally eliminated the ability of the button to be pushed from the "fire" position to the "safe" position - no matter how hard I pushed the safety button. To further insure that the O-ring stayed in place, I also slipped a 5/16th exterior retention ring (snap ring) over the button and up against the O-ring. The placing of these two items on the rifle are not noticeable at all and totally eliminate the possibility that this unneeded safety will inadvertently be pushed "on". The rifle can be put back to original configuration in about 15 seconds.
