JC Higgins 42

[Old 112]

I very recently aquired this rifle. I believe it
is a Marlin 80, possibly made for Sears or other chain store.
I have a 780 Marlin, and it looks like an older version.

If anyone has some experience/knowledge
with this model, I would appreciate hearing about it.

It has some handling marks, but they are
minor. It is like new clean, and appears unshot.
It has a grooved receiver, and lands and
groove rifling.
 
The price was 140 otd.

  I checked it out. All i can find says the Higgins 42DL is the same as the Marlin 80.  The $140 price seems to be about right.

I was in a pawn shop yesterday.
They had 3 Marlins---one was a MDL 80---a cebine model of the 60.
It was not the brightest looking gun I have ever seen by a long shot and I could have bought it for $110----without haggeling.
Sounds like a good buy.

I have a sears model 43, which is the marlin 81 tube fed.  they shoot great.

In the Numrich Gun parts catalog has a cross over section which can tell you what it is exactly.  Ill have to look for mine.
