Bogmaster:

I was thinking of the Duke  1 3/4 offset coilspring trap. Do you know if the Duke 1 3/4 offset coilspring trap will hold a Coyote when trapping in a 24 hour check ? & would the  Duke  1 3/4 offset coilspring trap need any modifications done to the trap ?

                                                                            Thanks,

Coyote, the Duke #1 3/4 will hold coyotes but there are many variables that go along with that. How big are your yotes?will you be dirt trapping?Do you have a lot of free roaming dogs?
I was sent a dozen of the new Duke #3 offset--the only thing I did to them was night latch and put on heavier chain--the jaw face was very wide,so no laminating was needed. When I pick up some of the #1 3/4 this week I will give you a full report on them, they are supposed to be along the lines of the #3.  Tom

I use basicly stock Duke 1.75s to trap coyotes. The secret and indeed the key is to pack the trap solid so that the kill area is JUST the pan. I also use short chains to prevent lunging pullouts and double stake to avoid pumping.  Modifications like laminations and offsets are shown by the bmp tests on coyotes to make no difference in results or efficientcy with 1.75s. I run my traps on a 24 hour check.
