Current model will handle 2.5" only.  Their new model 4510TKR will handle 3" shells.  Delivery has moved out to Fall from Summer.

Just picked up on o these with the 2.5" cylinder and the 3" barrel.  Tried it out at 7-yards, 10-yards, and 25-yards with various .410 factory shot loads.  I was hoping that I may be able to use this as a "home" gun and for hunting rabbits here in MI.  I shot # 4 shot Remington Express Long Range, # 9 Winchester AA skeet loads, and 000 Buck loaded with three-pellets to a shell by Winchester.  The # 9 obviously had the best patterns at 7 and 10 yards for density, and the # 4's were very hit and miss for patterns at those ranges as well.  At 25 yards, forget it all together.  The 000 Buck appears to be an AWESOME home defense load at close range.  I emptied the cylinder double action at 7-yards and the result was 15 holes in the target equally spaced in about a 12" circle.  The same exercise at 10-yards yielded similar results but with about a third less holes.  Again, at 25-yards, forget about it!

So, in closing, not quite what I had hoped for for bunny hunting, but what I think would be an EXCELLENT house or vehicle gun!  Not to mention just an all around "fun" gun!

I can't help but think, though, I wonder if I could get a smith to install one of the shot-arrestor type choke tubes that TC put in their .45/.410 Encore and Contender barrels??  I would not hesitate to shoot at a bunny out to 30+ yards with one of the TC barrels!!!

???I have a new Judge  3"barrel.  I like the 21/2 inch shot shell.  #6 cover a 12 inch target nicely at 10yds.  And at closer range it is even denser.
Shooting the 45 colt at 25yds kept all five in the 12" target.  I want to see what the Russan 21/2 inch steel case with 5 #4 buck will do.
I also have some ideas on loading a 45 bullet down  longer 45 brass case.  same load as a normal 45 colt  but using the longer case to reduce the chamber  diameter  so there is not such a long free boar.  anyone know where I can get  21/2 inch 45 Colt brass??  I will try using the new 460 S&W brass they are 1.8 inches long.  Using a light 45 load with the bullet set down on the powder  may improve accuracy.

Can anyone tell me more about this new model, 4510TKR? Where can I get more info on it?

I talked to Taurus about the 3 inch chamber for the 4510TKR. They told me the new 3 inch chamber will be available in the 3" blue, the 3" stainless, the 6" blue and the 6" stainless. They expect them to be out sometime this fall as they are doing tests on them now.  ;)

I thought that putting a choke in the Judge would solve a lot of problems. The Thompson Contender has a choke but no fast second shot; the Magnum Research "BFR" has a choke and a fast second shot but you need a gun-bearer to carry the heavy thing around. Choking the Judge was not easy. Most local gunsmiths wouldn't touch it because the barrel is not round and could not be put in a lathe. Special tooling is required. Anyway, I prevailed on a large-scale gunsmithing operation to tool up  (they will soon be advertising the service) and IT TURNED OUT GREAT!! Change the name from the "Judge" to the "GROUSEGETTER".  The choked 6 1/2"  barrel knocks 'em dead. I am currently having a second one, with a 4" barrel, machined as you read this just as an experiment to see if there is a significant drop in performance.

not sure on your cylinder but you may consider 444marlin brass fire formed in a 410 barrel or even cut down some 410 brass cases that midway has. Kurt
The magtek 410 brass is 2.342
The marlin 444 is 2.226

this Judge looks like it would be an awesome house or car gun, especially with the 3"
410s.
some where i had gotten it in my head these shotgun/pistol was illegal, thought shotgun had to have 18" barrel.
I live in Texas so maybe that would make a dif.

Sorry guys I just can't see the hype , have a 45/410 derringer and if i used it for self defense it would be loaded with 45 Colt rounds !
snakes the 410 , other stuff can't think of any place to shoot someone or something where a 250 gr slug wouldn't do better than a few buckshot moving slower than the 45 .
as a fun gun skeet etc sounds good maybe .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Got my long barrel before all the hype. Traded it before all the hype.
Good for shooting snakes or getting rid or rodents if you live in the country.

So, is the 3" model out now?  When it was mentioned "fall", is that fall of 2007 or fall of 2008?
It it hurts when you do that then don't do that.

Would like some more info on this service and/or company who did it??

Thank you!

I was just wondering if it would be possible to download some .454 casull rounds to fire in the 3" chambered model so there isn't so much of a jump for the bullet to get to the rifling? Or would the slight difference in bullet size run the pressures up too much even with tamed reloads?

okay thanks... I know the bullets I use to reload my .45 colt is .4515 but I have never reloaded my .454 yet so I wasn't sure if the bullet size was the same or not. I thought the .45 colt might be a couple of hundredths or a millimeter smaller.

Rex6666, you asked about the legality of these. AS LONG AS the barrel is rifled, it is NOT considered a shotgun, even though it can accommodate shotgun shells. It would be the same as shooting the Speer shot shells in .22, .38, .44 and so on. I kinda wish that Taurus would put a super slow rate of rifling in them, something like 1 turn in 10 feet, or so, simply for better shotshell performance. I know it would not stabilize .45 Colt rounds, but it would sure make the shotshells work better.
