Best .223 barrel?

Best .223 barrel?

First question, on the website is lists the Ultra Rifle Barrels.  Will the standard Handi Rifle accept these barrels?

Second questions, which should I get?

Assuming I can get the Ultra Rifle Barrels: (if I cannot with the standard Handi Rifle, please do not suggest I get one)

Choices:
Ultra Rifle .223 24” Bull
         .223 24” Bull Fluted

Standard Handi Rifle
         .223 22”
         .223 22” Bull
         .223 22” Stainless

If you could explain the advantages and disadvantages or why you chose a particular one, that would be great.

Thanks!

The 24'' bull barrel is the way to go. You will get extra MV out of the 24'' barrel verse the 22'' barrel. The 24'' bull fluted looks nice and weighs slightly less but IMO not worth the extra money.     Dale

There you go, Dale knows what he is talking about. ;D I happen to have the 24" Bull barrel, it came with my Ultra. I agree with Dale on all counts.

This is as tight of 100yd groups as I can get with my 22" heavy barrel.
Maybe If I had the flutes or those other 2" it would shoot better.

Just foolin,
They are all good shooters.
The heavier ones tend to shoot better groups,
and the longer ones shoot higher velocity.
There is also a 20" super light barrel but accuracy is hit and miss.

So I'm assuming the Ultra barrels will work on my handi receiver?

Thanks for the input.

rr,

Just so you don't have to ask, ALL shotgun(except 10gr and 12ga slug), CF rifle and Huntsman barrels listed in the accessory barrel program, as well as all of the stocks, can be fitted to a late model SB2 Handi/BC/Target frame.  ;) Pre-99(see FAQs) SB2 frames can't be fitted with any of the * marked barrels and no frame made before 1987 can be fitted with any barrel.

well i've had all of them but the stainless and i've had good luck with all i had a little trouble with a 24" bull but i worked it out in the end . if i had to pick one i would go with the 24" fluted and now with the 1-9 twist for me they shoot the 50's and 55's better.
curiosity killed the cat , but i was lead suspect for a while

Good luck trying to find a 1-9 twist though. If i am not mistaken they did not make many and went back to the 1-12. It has been reported that the 1-9 did not shoot the heaver bullets any better.  Dale

All current production 223 barrels are 1:9", they did switch back and forth for a while in 2005 and 2006, so it's hard telling what you will get, the only way to know is check it with a tight patch on a jag. Superlight 223 barrels are still 1:12", at least until they run out of current stock. ;)
