Optics advice for Huntsman

Ok, i dont want to start a flame war or anything, but ..
for the Huntsman, should i get a rifle scope, a shotgun scope or a red dot type unit ?
all opinions welcome.. make and model dont matter really

Whatever you prefer will work. I don't like a big giant scope on a muzzleloader, so I prefer the same Bushnell 1.75-5X that I use on my slug gun.

Really for most ML distances, any of the tree options would be workable. It more depends on what your use for the muzzleloader will be and what your requirements will be.

You probably know that you will need to either use a Monte Carlo stock or use a cheek piece of some type on your muzzleloader with a scope. You have to pick your head off the stock when using a scope with the straight stock.

I have been installing Burris Fullfield 11  3X9 - 40mm Ballistic Plex scopes on several of my ML rifles.  Burris seems to be a bright scope and the ballistic plex is very similar to the BDC types on other scopes except that instead of circles it has crosses at the various distance marks. Check around as the prices vary.

Glenn, if you're in the market for a nice scope that is H&R friendly and won't break the bank, the Bushnell Legend 2-7x32 is one of my favorites, I have one on my 30-30 and 444 Marlin H&Rs, both mounted in low Leupold PRW rings.

I have BSA, Bushnell, Barska, and Simmons scopes on my rifles, but they are all rifle scopes in the 3 to 9 power range. The question i was trying to ask, am i better off with a shotgun or rifle scope on my huntsman ML.

The big difference I see in some of those you mention is the eye relief may be too short for stout loads, and the parallax setting for most 3-9x big game scopes is 100yds or 150yds, shotgun scopes are usually parallax free at 75yds, but for big game purposes, that won't likely make a big difference, at least not as much as if you were shooting for score. The eye relief is the biggest issue. I have a Redhead scope that is touted as a muzzleloader scope, but I wouldn't put it on anything with any recoil, I put it on a 243 since the eye relief is so short, the eye relief is also very critical, has a small eye box, not great for quick target aquisition.

That was the situation on the Whelen i need the extra eye relief of the simmons scope. so i wouldnt get poped, but really the whelen dont kick, its more of a shove.
but i can see where the ML may kick more like a shotgun. so i thought a shotgun scope with low mounts would fit the bill better.
so we'll see, im poor enough so price matters too.

Take a look at a Nikon Prostaff in 2-7x32. A real deal for about $129.

I have a fixed 4x simmons shotgun scope on my sidekick and I have had no problems of any kind with it. I think it cost me 59.00 last fall.I shot 2 does with it last year, and it hit exactly where i was aiming. good scope for the money imo.

i just got a sportster and put a simmons on it, i like them, good optics for the money. thats prolly what i'll get for my ML in a shotgun setup.
