Anyone here scoped a Ruger Mark 3
« on: August 13, 2007, 03:11:20 AM »
I have a Mark 3 Target in stainless and I really like it.  I'm thinking about putting a scope on top of it, but I have never scoped a handgun before.  I don't get too competitive with my little 22 so I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars, I'm just looking for something that might help me hit targets just a little further out.  Any suggestions?

Thanks

I haven't scoped mine, per se, but I did mount a cheap BSA red dot and it has been very good. It does not allow carrying in a holster, but it is fast, aaccurate and so far, reliable. I did have to loc-tite my screws, though. A scope would be an excellent addition to an already great gun. I kind of wish that I had put one on instead.

I put a Burris scope on a MKII and the combo was huge----the red dot is a much better suggestion and a lot cheaper too.

I put a set of Crimson Trace grips on a Mark 3. It is an absolute blast to shoot at the indoor range, not so good outside. I also have a Mark 1 (scoped) that is a blast to shoot outdoors. I used the Weaver over the rear sight clamp on mount and a 3 to 9 scope. If you scope yours, you will be amazed at what you can do with it.

I put a Leupold 2x on my stainless target and like it. Here is what I shot yesterday:

CCI subsonic .54
SSS .57  (this surprised me)
wolf match .59
(it did not like faster ammo)

I would not have done nearly as well without the scope, I'm sure. This is the first time I have shot it.

I will squirrel hunt with mine so I will probably shoot that big ol' sss stuff and thump them out.lol
But, I like the magnification of the 2x. 4x would be better on sand bags, but I won't be doing that much. 2x is less shaky getting on target.

here is mine. i put a simmons 2x6 pro hunter on it. not too bad on price, and the fine plex cross hairs are nice for a 22. havn't shot the rig yet, but i know the scope is nice on a rimfire because it was on the 22/45 5 1/2" model i traded in.

My $25 BSA red dot is currently on my S&W 617. I put a nice Ultradot LT on my MK II 678GC. Works beautifully. Very accurate. Makes a nice pocket rifle.
