Well I went with a stainless Puma 44 mag.  I think it was a very fair deal and I've read a lot of good things about them.  I already have a Marlin 336 so I thought I'd try something different.  I don't really care for buckhorn sights and I liked the Puma sights better anyway.  I'll type a range report as soon as I get to take it out.  I better get the wife something nice this weekend or she'll be pointing that gun at me.

Should I bother doing a barrel break in procedure on this rifle?  I always do it for a regular bolt rifle, but this is an open sighted levergun shooting a pistol cartridge.  I'm not sure if I will or not.

No I would not. I only put in that level of effort these days for barrels I expect MOA or better from. If that's not my expectation I don't waste my time and effort on it. Just shoot the heck out of it.

I don't break-in any of my barrels except by shooting them.  I've never seen the need.
