Need Rangefinder info
« on: September 15, 2007, 07:15:41 AM »
Any one here use one of those Bushnell Sportsman Rangefinders the ones usually on sale for about a 150 dollars US? That is about what my price range will be and I know they do not have all the bells and whistles but thats ok as I do not mind just as long as I can tell distance with it. Sold my  left handed Martin Compound for 50 bucks this morning and some other odds and ends. I know I probably could have gotten more for it if I advertised it but I felt most folks look for bargains at rummage sales so 50 would be a good price. It went to some ones left handed grandson so he will be thrilled.  I figure I got half the cash now and the sale is not over till 4 so I am thinking I should at least have 90 bucks towards one. I figured good way to get cash for one as my friends had a rummage sale for me to put stuff in and it was a part of the city area rummage sale so lots of folks around.  :D  Any way if any one has one I was just wondering how well they work.
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

No experience with that particular model but I have with several Bushnell RFs and they are a good product that will serve you well. For bow hunting the little scout (I think that's what it's called) sure is nice as it reads to about ten yards and fits into a shirt pocket. I have one. It also reads fine out to over 600 yards so is very versatile. No clue what they are selling for now.

I express my interest in Rangefinders a few years ago.  My hunting part told me about a group of hunters who were testing a Bushnell rangefinder (model unknown) and the Nikon 400 one of them had bought at Wal Mark.

The hunting partner told me he preferred the Nikon because it was easier to read.

Another hunting partner bought a Bushnell rangefinder and did not care for it.  He gave it to his son.  Frankly I think he is a generous dad, and wanted to see his son well equipped.  He is also a successful hunter and excellent shot with a lot of field experience in Alaska and the lower 48.

When the wife asked me for my 2006 Christmas list a Nikon 400 was at the top of my list.  She upgraded it to a Nikon 800.  I believe the 800 is an excellent value, and glass.  I have spent the last 9.5 months running around and ranging everything from house cats to deer.  The 800 has a 6x glass.  I do not think I would want one stronger because without support it is hard to keep on a distant deer when standing and a little bit winded from a hard climb.  I have developed the habit of locking myself down so I can get a good reading.  The more I have used it the better the results.  While there is always something better, even from Nikon, I would recommend the Nikon 800 based on my use.  But the Nikon 400 would be more in your price range.

Recommend you stop by a sport goods counter and test them out.

I carry it in a front shirt pocket.
