Contender Stock Forearm
« on: September 08, 2007, 06:16:52 AM »
I have an old style frame with a G2 23" barrel. Will the rynite stock forarm for a 21" barrel fit or made to fit?

I think you'll need the new G2 Forend for that barrel.

I wouldn't ruin an old rynite 21" carbine forend trying to make it something it isn't.

I don't know about the Carbine, but a G2 Forend for a Super 14 Barrel fits my Old Frame Contender, and I hate to say it, but I kinda like it!

I'm pretty sure you have to buy the correct forend to the barrel.  You can probably call T/C and Ask.

The hole spacing and the screws are the same, but the contour of the 23" barrel is a little fatter than the 21".  Routing out the barrel channel slightly is not a big deal with a dremel.  I float my forend off the barrel slightly anyway, so now the gap between forend and the 21" barrel is a little bigger....hardly noticeable.  GOOD SHOOTIN', Walt   ;)

I have bought 2 new bbls this year for my old Contender frame. You need the new style forend to go with the new style bbl. They will fit the pre-G2 frame, no problem.

If you are talking about Gunstocks, Inc. they are fine folks.  The majority of the shaping is done, but you have to do final sanding and fit the barrel channel.  I wrap sand paper around dowels the same diameter as the barrel, and sand the channel to the contour I want.  I set in stainless steel pillars in the forend to allow me to float the barrel but I am not convinced that is necessary.  Just something I do.

Thanks for all the input. I did use a Rynite forend and sanded a bit with a dowel...and it works perfectly! I am considering a wood stock also. Does anyone have any info on Boyd's thumbhole sporters and forends?

I have the Boyds set for my Encore and i love it. I am planning on getting one for the Contender also. Midway has then in their sale flier every couple of months at a pretty good discount.
