Ruger Compact

Bought a Ruger SS Compact in 308 - 16.5" in barrel, 6lbs, with a scaled down laminated stock. I really like the feel of this little gun. I had been thinking; I almost always hunt from makeshift ground blinds, blowdowns, or treestands and most of my shots are 100yds or less, so why am I lugging around a full size rifle? I can't get over how light and nimble this little gun is. Maneuverability of this gun is going to be great in tight quarters and when making my way through dense woods. It has the new LC6 trigger in it and out of the box the trigger is crisp but just a tad heavy. I would guess around 5lbs. I'm going to shoot it some before I make any adjustments to the trigger. Overall I'm really impressed with this gun.

Shilo. Congrats on your new rifle. I have one in in .243, and I wish it was in .308. It handles very well, and is a pleasure to carry. It certainly makes sense in a ground blind or cramped tree stand, as well as carrying.in the woods. The only gripe is the trigger, and it sounds like you have a nice rig.

Now you guys knock it off.

I have hunted with a Ruger 338 for many years.  Easily my favorite rifle.

Several years ago I picked up a Remington model 7 in 308 to take down south on a deer hunt.  18 inch barrel and Leupold 4 power scope.  I took 8 Whitetails in 12 days.  2 deer were running flat out and that little rifle never missed.

I decided, that little rifle fits me perfectly and is balanced exactly right for me.

Too bad, I thought,  Ruger doesn't make a compact bolt-action rifle like this.

Then I saw one!  And another and another.

Talk about emotional turmoil.  I neeeed a Ruger Compact but that Remington has been more loyal that a hound dog.  The last thing I want to do is make the Model 7 mad.

So I haven't acquired a Ruger Compact...yet.

I just know there would be major jealously problems if I was to keep both rifles in the house together.  Maybe I should buy a Ruger but keep it at my buddies house?

Thats a good idea bustedknee go ahead and get you one of them Ruger Compact in 308 and I will be more than happy to store it for ya. ;D ;D ;D ;D
