.357 barrel here!
« on: September 13, 2007, 04:22:22 PM »
I sent my SB2 receiver in for a .357 and a 28 gauge barrel. It came back yesterday and I took the .357 to the range today. I ran about 65 rounds through it. The only .357 ammo I had was Rem. UMC 125 gr. JSP which didn't shoot that great. The accuracy wasn't that great, I was getting 4+ inch groups at 50 yards but I'm not going to get too concerned about it until I shoot some better types of ammo and give the rifle a chance to break in.

What saved the day was I also brought a box of old Western 148 gr. 38 special wadcutters. I actually got decent groups with a best of 1 3/4 inch 3 shot group at 50 yards using the factory open sights. .38's feel like shooting .22's out of this rifle as far as recoil and noise go. I like the factory Williams rear sight on this rifle. Here's a few pictures.

This is a very fun rifle to shoot. Even with the .357's the recoil is minimal. I can't wait to try out the 28 Gauge!

Good report, I can't wait until mine gets here.  What was your turnaround time?

To me the 38 loads seem to be even quieter than a 22 rim fire subsonic. It is only traveling around 600-700 fps. A subsonic 22 is about 1000 fps. It seems to have a little deeper sound, just a kind of pluuu. Maybe the sound travels further because of the lower frequency? To me is sounds a little bit quieter  :D On the plus side they (38 special) are cheaper to shoot than a 22 with special target ammo at $12 - $15 a box/50. :o I can buy 38 specials at around $10/box or even less if I roll my own. ;D

My turnaround time was just over 4 weeks. I live in New Hampshire so it only took UPS a day to get it back to me from Gardner Mass.

I'll probably put peep sights on it but I'm going to shoot it as is for a little while and try some different types of ammo.

Well my rifle in at least in the zip code.
UPS left a note yesterday at 1700. No sweat I was at work.
Thought I will be home at 1700 today.
I left for 30minutes to take some brush down to the dump and guess what?
UPS came @1330 while I was gone. >:(  grrrrrrr
Now I have to pick up the rifle today at 1900 when I was suppose to be snook fishin'.

UPS has no set delivery schedule or route like the USPS does, so they can make a delivery anytime depending on how many deliveries they have. Just be glad they left notice as they're supposed to on firearms that require and adult signature, I'd be much more upset if I came home to find my rifle laying on the front porch, IF it was still there!! >:(

My wife collects old books, tons of them, and our UPS guy throws packages into the bushes on each side of our front door. She has asked him not to do that, repeatedly. She recently found a waterlogged package under the bush and proceeded to annihilate the poor thing. (not the package, the bush) In an hour she had reduced the two bushes that I spent 10 years carefully pruning and shaping into Charlie Brown's Christmas tree. My daughter left a short text message on my phone, all it said was "I didn't have anything to do with it". I had no idea what that was all about and called my wife who explained what happened. She somehow justified her actions. She is many miles away, so I had no choice but to go with it. Better to have her mad at the UPS guy than me. ;)

If there's no bush there to hide the packages, maybe the UPS won't put em there, she's justified IMO. Sorry about the 10yrs of effort tho. :-\

My UPS driver does the same thing...but will also throw it in a plastic bag first.

When I know something is coming and I cannot be there, I leave a note, specfying where to place package.

I Give my full name, address and I sign the note. everytime he takes the note and leaves the package where I ask.

Now the USPS... Thats another story entirely!!!  I am luckey enough to have a "swing" route. So I done have a regular mail man. I have spoken with three of the people, one is dumber than dirt. The two girls are better. ::) ;D

Sent my receiver in yesterday for the 357 bbl. Hope I get it back by deer season (early Nov.)
My Ups guy is great, he leaves all packages inside the screen porch and if the weather is bad he puts them in plastic bags

My UPS "guy" is great too, she's a very nice  5'2" blue-eyed blonde!!! ;D

Old coach, don't plan on UPS leaving your 357, because the frame is included and firearms require an adult signature, they won't leave em even if you have a signature waiver on file.....at least they aren't supposed to. ::)

I have a SIGNATURE REQUIRED on file with them. They know better than to not stop and get a signature from me now. Yup I've been real nasty about it with them. Wish I could get FEDEX trained.

Fed Ex is pretty good here...but...UPS isn't and will leave it out in plain site of the street with out any signature
