My son and I  have been playing with my 45 carbine.  We are shooting a 250 grain cast boolit at 920 fps with great accuracy out to 50+ yards and almost no recoil. Bow searson ends here on monday and rfle season begins.  What do you deer hunters think about using this load on a white tail doe at 50 yards and under?

This one is for you Tim.  My six year old figures we need to take this carbine with us on our next visit to The Dalles, OR, as he wants to use it on grey-diggers instead of the 22.

Roscoe,
Your son is a man (albeit six) that shares my feelings of shooting little things with big bullets. Smack em good!

Go for it Roscoe, that's the same velocity that standard 45 Colt velocities offer in a revolver, and there are plenty that use those for deer and bigger critters!!! Ought to be fun on diggers too!! ;D

The old 44-40 killed a ton of deer, elk, and bear with a similar load. I dought the deer are any tougher now.

Sounds like a good "woods" load to me!  The more I hear you guys talking about the 45 colt, the more I want one :)

I have a Maarlin camp carbine in 45ACP that I have shot a couple deer with under the limitations you have set for your self.

It went pretty much like this, Bang, plop...dead deer. Both were 140 ish pounders shot at under 50 yards. Shot at the base of the neck/high in the shoulder. Using Remington Golder saber 185gr+P ammo.

Your load will penetrate better, but even I had full penetration at that range. You will be fine. Bullet placement and calm animals is key.

Good luck, post up how it goes!!
