scmidt-rubin in .308?

I have a sporterized Schmidt-Rubin M 1911, originally in 7.5 Swiss, but you can see where the barrell has been set back, and (faintly) stamped " 308 Nato". Anyone have any info on these? I believe a some were brought into the US in the '60s, but I haven't seen any credible info on them.

Schmidt Rubin in 308

Evil Roy:  That sure sounds interesting.  The Schmidt Rubin was originally chambered in the 7.5x55 Swiss cartridge, which has a .308 bore.  I had one a number of years ago and reloaded for it.  I do not feel the 7.5x55 gave up anything to the 308.  In thinking about it, you would probably only have to set the barrel back a bit to rechamber for the 308 from the 7.5.

I would consider this a curiousity piece and if I were to shoot it I would use only military ammo.  Military ammo is loaded to lower pressures than the sporting 308 ammo is and military pressures are more consistent with what that action was originally designed for.  Hope this helps.  Mikey.

Mikey: Thanks for the response. I think I'll keep it a 308, I already buy surplus ammo for my M1A. I picked up the Schmidt-Rubin in an estate sale deal...cant wait to take it to the range. The straight pull action really gets peoples attention.

I've had a S-R K11 for a couple years, chambered in .308. Sub MOA groups. Don't worry about the action strength, they are right up there, or above, the M98 Mausers.
