Panther?

A friend of mine has a machete, pretty old I guess, I haven't seen it. The only markings he could remember is on the blade it says panther and made in Spain. Can anyone get any info on this?

I tried looking on the web too and didn't find anything. I thought it might be from the spanish american war but he said the blade is curved kind of like a scimitar and the pics I found from the war weren't anything like that.
