"The Load"

Has anyone Tried C.E. Harris's "the load" 13 grains of Red Dot in a Rifle case (any case over 35 Rem size.) For rifles bored 30 cal and larger. Supposed to work good for a reduced load in 308, 30/06, 762x54, 8mm, 45/70 ect. Supposed to be good with cast and jacketed bullets with velocity in the 1450 for a 200 grain 1500 with a 170 grain and 1600 with a 150 grain that is all cast bullets jacketed are a bit slower. Any one that has used this load or a reduced load for the 30/30 using Red Dot I would be interested in hearing about it. Jim

After doing more research I decided on using Unique for reduced loads not as fast a powder and more applications were found. A few more grains might be used but it looked like it might have more accurate loads. Jim

I've used unique quite a bit in rifles, .308, 35 whelen AI, 350 Rigby and 500 Jeffrey, and it works very well with milder cast bullet loads, ie 1200-1700 fps.

"The Load" will work OK in pretty much anything, just like he says. But it is seldom ideal, and with some playing around you can often find better results. I do like Red Dot for rifle loads however, it's extremely easy to ignite and doesn't care how much empty space you have in the case. 10.0gr. of it in a .243 with the 95gr. RCBS bullet was my cast bullet silhouette load for years. Green Dot also works very well, and gives exceptional accuracy in my 30-40 and a friend's .375 Weatherby.

I tried 13g of Red Dot with a 170g GCRN in the 8mm in my 98/22 and they shot all over the place.  
With the 7.65 Argy carbine with a 185g GCRN (Lee) and 13g RD the 10 shot group would have been in 3" if vertical stringing was eliminated.  I have got to break down and buy a set of rests.  Any suggestions?
