POWDER SOLVENT
« on: August 20, 2007, 02:12:28 AM »
Just picked up a new to me black hawk 45 colt & bear-cat both in stainless. They look like they never have been cleaned (got a good deal) cylinder face, top strap are black with powder cannot see a spot of stainless anywhere. Need a good powder solvent to clean them up, I do not let my guns get this dirty. I think they are going to be ok after the clean up. Usually use hoppe's & a tooth brush to clean after shooting with good results. These seem to be past that stage, any & all idea's welcome

birchwood casey's "Bore Scrubber" is probably stronger than Hoppe's #9, but it contains a rust-preventer so the firearm can be left with a coating of it on there.   surprising, but that's how the bottles are labelled that i have.

take care,

Thanks for all the info, found some of that yellow cloth at sportsman's wipe away elbow grease & it cleaned up. Says not to use on blue guns probably a good idea

Think it might be like midways miracle cloth
