trap dip

just getting back into trapping, just dipped my traps after a week they are gooey with a tar like coating, did i do something wrong?

 My guess is,you mixed your dip with gasoline.I use coleman fuel(white gas).
  Please let me know what you did, it helps when trying to provide a correct answer.

yes i used gas, will white fuel work better?

  Todays gasoline,has so many additives in it, that it prevents dip from drying properly.
 I use only coleman fuel ,when mixing up my dip.I also tend to thin my dip out a bit more than suggested.
 Your best bet is to mix up a batch ,and test dip a trap or 2.My traps are dry to the touch in less than an hour.

Temperature and humidity also have an effect on how fast they dry.
