« on: July 23, 2007, 02:24:47 PM »
I have a chance to buy a Uberti 1885 High Wall rifle in 45/120 caliber, the gun is knew and never been fired. Would like some info. on comparison to other High Walls. In other words does Uberti manufacturer a quality firearm? Also I am familiar with the 45/120 caliber, have been reloading them for years.

I have a Uberti 1885 in 45-70. Have shot black as well as smokeless and only cast bullets. I really like the gun although the rear tang sight that came with it is trash. The rifle is very accurate and I have shot mild to above average loads in it. The weight is about nine and one half pounds.  The trigger (standard-not set trigger)  is excellent and breaks at a little less than three pounds. My rifle has the 30 inch octagon barrel and with the curved butt plate recoil is noticeable with the heavier loads. A shotgun style stock would be better. It has a coil spring in the action that makes complete takedown difficult-but thus far I have not had any reason to do this. The fit and finish is good-I like the shade of case coloring on the action. I have no complaints about the rifle. I would buy another one without hesitation.

Although I haven't owned the rifle in question, I have had many Ubertis throughout the years.  They absolutely make a quality product.

I have several Uberti rifles, and I strongly agree with what Choctah said.

Before you buy, ask on the BPCR forum what people think about the 45-120 as a 1st time cartridge, recoil,  cost of bullets, and cost of reloading.
