Back in 1970 my brother and i went to a gunshop where my brother spotted a gun he just "had to have" as it was marked waaay down and the last one in the store. The problem is, he didn't have the $95.00 it cost to buy it. I happened to have a hundred dollar bill in my pocket and loaned it to him. Soon after, my brother fell onto hard times, and not long after that i decided to move to Alaska. It bothered my brother so much that he owed me that money, that one day when i showed up at his door he was headed out with two guns in cases. When i asked him "where he was going", he told me he had two Browning rifles, and was headed to sell one to pay me the money he owed me!!
I told him several times not to worry about it, and just to just send it to me when he had it, but he wouldn't hear of it! He opened both cases and told me to either take one of the guns, or he was going to sell one of them "right then" to pay me! Dang, i hated to do it, but i liked the semi auto he had better than the lever he also had, so i took the auto! Either one was worth more than a hundred bucks, so i knew i could get my $$ if i ever needed it.
Some years later i lost my home to a fire, and most of my guns were damaged in one way or another includeing the little Browning auto... Many years after that, i decided to "fix up" the little Browning... I had a claro walnut stock blank around and decided to put that on it, and even make this auto "left hand" friendly. Can you see what makes it LH friendly?? Anyway, i think it came out quite nice...
As you can see, it's a grade11 and it has a "22 scope" that Redfield made just for 22's of this size. Redfield also made the same scope for Browning and they have the Browning name right on them.
The "skeleton" grip cap is pretty cool, and highlites that really pretty wood this gun has...
It also has pretty nice checkering and a Neidner steel but plate...
As you can see, the wood to metal fit on this 22 is top shelf, and even though it's a quite old gun now and no longer "perfect", it's still in pretty nice shape... It also shoots pretty good too...
Well, that's the story of my custom Browning 22 long rifle... and i hope you enjoyed the picts of it!
