Now this was an awesome test. I hope everyone does the same. It's the telling mark of 'Cool'! I'm really surprised at the 'heavy' velocities from the '06. I didn't think the 200gr'er would be as fast as it is? Now I have to decide--300WM or 338WM? I have teh 338-06 coming, so I guess I'll do teh same type of test for you guys. Now, if someone has some pull at TC...It's already been 2-months and counting. I can't believe teh need for Omega's is that great? I would've guessed that they have all sorts of barrel blanks laying around, hoping for a home? I guess not? PJ--Great job!! keep it up. I'll do teh numbers as soon as I get my barrel. I have sierra, Barnes and Hornady loaded and ready to go!!!  That 300 sounds like a bone-e-fide Elk gun, to me.
The first shot is the best shot, it may be your only shot!  Do it with a single-shot.

I presume those figures came from 5 or 10 shot averages.  What did the groups look like?

Yes, all were 5 shot averages the '06 had an extrem spred of about 70 fps almost across the board. The 300mag had a spred of only 15 to 25 with all the handloads.I do think the 300mag is by far a better preformer than the '06.Groups as far as the '06.....130's didn't group at all looked like a shotgun with buck-shot :) .150's shot a nice .600 group. Both 180's and 200's shot about 1.5" groups. The 300mag shot 130's,150's and 200's at 1 3/4" groups. The 180's shot best at 1/2" or one ragged hole.

I thought it was odd that in the '06 the heavy bullets 180's and 200's were about 260+/- fps from the 300mag.Then if you look at the '06 with 130's it didn't go much faster then the 150's. :? The 300mag was an eye opener with the 130's and the 200's made me look like this
