New Bushnell Firefly reticles really work!
« on: June 09, 2003, 10:25:02 AM »
I just got a Bushnell Elite 3200 1.5x-4.5x-32mm with Firefly reticle.  Wow!  It really works!

The scope comes with a little flashlight, and also includes a battery for the flashlight.  I shined the flashlight from the rear eye piece for about 20 to 30 seconds.  The manuals says to do it for about 2 to 3 MINUTES.  But let me tell you, it worked GREAT!  I don't know exactly how long it lasts, because I went back to bed, but it was at least 1 hour.  It could have been more I guess.

I have other battery operated illuminated scopes from Leupold, Nikon, and Nightforce, but this one is pretty cool and costs MUCH less than battery operated ones.

My only complaint is that the middle section of the cross-hairs are not illuminated.  Rather, it is just the outside posts - which is kinda the opposite from my Leupold and Nikon scopes (On the nightforce, the ENTIRE reticles are illuminated).

Overall I'm very happy with it and I highly recommend it to everyone!

Now Zachary,  if they would add it to the 4200 series.

John,

Bushnell is making one in the 4200 series.  The 2.5-10x40 is being produced with the firefly, but are not out yet.  At least, I do not have the ones that I have ordered yet.

Actually, I have any eye out on the Elite 4200 2.5x-10x-40mm Firefly for my .308 and .25-06, but I am waiting to see if Bushnell will offer it in their 50mm version as well.  My 25-06 is a Tikka Laminated Stainess and, as such, a 40mm scope would look just fine.  However, my .308 is a Remington VS SF with a big bull fluted barrel.  As such, sure, a 40mm will work, but it would look kinda puney on such a big gun.

How do you like the width of the recticle in the 1x4 Firefly  ?

I was able to look at one in a Scheel's store , and I was surprised at how heavy the recticle was.  It was my impression that it would tend to obscure part of your target.

On the other hand  , that was only a quick view indoors......It may look better if you get outside and actually shoot the scope.

What do you think  ?

Yes, the outside reticle posts are a bit thicker than usual, but this did not obscure my targets downrange.  Now, I have not even mounted it on my .375 yet, but I have held it in my hands and used it during the day and during the evenings and looked at various animals just for comparison - like dogs, cats, squirrels, trees, garbage cans, walls, cars, etc.  It really didn't bother me.
