Is it possible to get a ultralight in a more appropriate caliber?

It would be nice to have a lightweight rifle in 7-08, .270, or so. The web sight only lists the Hornet and 45/70.

The superlights are only available in 22 hornet, 223 and 243.

The Superlight uses the same SB2 frame as other H&R rifles. ;)

Even though the web site lists the superlite at 5 1/2 pounds it is closer to 6 1/4 . One thing that can be done is to change out the wood stocks for a set of the ( Tupperwere ) which will bring most standard Handis down to the weight of a SL . or the barrel could be cut down and re-crowned to drop weight also .

But you must consider the recoil of a 6 pound rifle can be perty harsh with out a good recoil pad .

Thanks for the replies. I was wondering if there was a difference in the receivers. It's too late for this year, but the wheels are turning.

The only difference in frames is old vs new, anything made before 1999 can't be fitted with a high pressure barrel, those marked with an * on the accessory barrel list.

My 7mm-08 only weighs 7.5 lbs with the synthetic stocks.
That's with a 3-9x40 scope, and the standard barrel.

Oh, by the way.
It has noticeable recoil.

Some of the synthetic Handis come with a weight in the stock you can remove. At least that was the case for my stainless 30-06. I removed the weight and with a Weaver K2.5 scope (7 oz), the total weight is just a little over 7 pounds. Good for hunting, but adding some weight back into the stock helps with recoil when going to the range.
