I bought my first Handi in August.

I was trying to decide on which rifle to get, either a Rossi or a Handi and did some research on both.

Most people don't separate the two, and most don't know the difference at first glance and I was one of those, until I researched it.

The Handi is the superior rifle by far.

That said, I wanted a .243 because of it's versatility, and the fact that it wasn't a hard recoil rifle, of which I've pretty much had enough of in those bigger calibers.  (bad shoulder)

After finding a deal I couldn't pass up on a youth model .243 in a gun shop, I found this site, and soon bought a walnut stock for my new rifle.

After hanging around a while and doing a lot of reading I soon came to the conclusion that I needed to get a slightly bigger caliber to suit my needs.

That was a toss up between a 25-06 or the 7MM-08.

I found just what I needed in the 7MM-08 from the Handi classifieds, and now I've got both the .243 and 7-08, in my arsenal.

Like everyone says it's contagious!

In my opinion those two calibers are pretty versatile, and you can hunt smaller critters and larger depending on the bullet and load if your into that!

Just remember where talking Handi's here, and you can have all the calibers if you want!
My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

That question has been asked many times, here are some previous threads that will give you some ideas. The 243 is probably the most popular, but the 25-06 would also be a contender as is the  270, 7mm-08 or 280, and don't forget the 30-30. As always, my answer is........ ALL of em, one at a time!! ;D

The 25-06 is an excellent choice!!!!! When I buy another Handi that will probably be the one I get. As far as ammo if you have read up on Handi's you know ever one is different and you will have to maybe try several brands and weight to find the ammo yours like best.    Dale

As far as price, Federal Power Shoks, Fusion and Remington Corelokts are probably the least expensive, Federal and Remington have a $5 rebate going on their ammo right now, so I'd take advantage of that if I were using factory ammo. Of course, the cost of ammo now is a definite incentive to start reloading, the Lee Loader is very efficient and inexpensive for reloading if for just one chambering, be sure to save your brass in case you decide to, I really kick myself for giving away all the brass I've shot in the last 45-50yrs or so!! ;D
